I Must Have Slept Wrong

How many of us have heard or said those words?  I know I have!  My favorite is, "I have a crick in my neck".  I love that word, "crick".  Dictionary.com says that crick is indeed a noun, meaning a sharp spasm pain in the neck.  Most of us are referring to a stiff neck.  In this post you will read about what causes a stiff neck, how you can relieve a stiff neck by stretching, and how you can prevent stiffness.

STOP Sports Injuries Campaign

My motivation.

An addition to my many physical therapy experiences due to crooked feet, my son is also a motivation to become a physical therapist. My 15 year old son has played highly competitive sports since fifth grade by his choice. He plays sports all year round that include basketball, football, and track. He will be a freshman this year starting on the junior varsity basketball team and varsity football and track team.

He has had his share of sports related injuries. In 6th grade his foot became tangled in the caution tape used at the finish line in a track meet. He fell on his wrist and fractured it in three places. In 7th grade during a basketball tournament, he was playing his third game of the day when he landed wrong after a lay up and rolled his ankle over. He severely sprained his ankle and shifted the fibula.

Bunions, Treatments, Surgeries...Oh My! The Story of My Quadruple Bunionectomy

BUNIONS

Courtesy Epodiatry.com
Most people, when they hear the word bunion shrivel up in disgust.  They can be unsightly and horribly painful.  Bunions are bony prominences on the base of the first metatarsal, commonly referred to as the big toe.  A bunion on the little toe is called a bunionette.  Bunions form when the big toe (or little toe for bunionettes) pushes up against the other toes, this forces the joint in the opposite direction.  There are many reasons for the toes to behave in this manner. Wearing ill-fitting shoes is the most common cause for bunion formation.  The tightness of a shoe can push toes together creating the bunion.  Medical conditions and misalignment of the bones in the feet either from genetics or injury can also cause bunions.

Physical Therapy Curious

That's me, physical therapy curious! Ever since I received my first physical therapy treatment on a pulled  hamstring I have wondered, "How does that work?"  I am truly in awe of how bodies move and the seemingly miraculous recovery they make after an injury.  After many  treatments for more injuries, it finally occurred to me that I could be a physical therapist.

At age 33, I took a bold leap to go back to school to pursue my passion for physical therapy and my desire to inspire movement in others.  MoveMe is my shared journey through this educational process of becoming a physical therapist. Through this blog, I will share with other physical therapy curious people articles, pictures, stories, and the things I learn on my amazing journey.  I long to inspire others to move and find my own inspiration in their movement.  So, lets MoveMe and move each other!

You can expect an official physical therapy blog from me soon.  In the meantime, tell me what you think.  What are your ideas for this blog?  Do you have any advice for me or others pursuing this career?
